Cookie Notice

The minimum cookies SiteGuardian sets, the cookies our payment processor sets, and what we never use (analytics, advertising, tracking).

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to remember. There are also "local storage" items, which serve the same purpose but live in your browser's local storage instead. We use both on SiteGuardian. For the rest of this page, when we say "cookie," we mean either.

We use the minimum cookies needed to keep you signed in and to honour your preferences. We do not set analytics cookies.

What we use today

Strictly necessary. Always on

These cookies are required for the site to work. We cannot turn them off without breaking your experience.

  • Authentication cookies (set by our auth provider, better-auth). These keep you signed in as you move between pages and authenticate API requests.
  • Session state. Short-lived, cleared when you close your browser or sign out.

Preferences. Always on

We treat these as part of the basic feature, not an upgrade.

  • Theme preference (`theme`). Stored by next-themes so the site remembers whether you picked light mode or dark mode. Stored in local storage, not as a cookie, but listed here for honesty.
  • Cookie-banner dismissed flag (`siteguardian:cookies-dismissed`). Stored in local storage so this banner doesn't reappear after you dismiss it. If you clear your browser data, the banner will return.

What we do not use

If we ever enable analytics on SiteGuardian, it will be one of two things:

1. A first-party analytics tool that respects the "do not track" header and is opt-in only. Meaning no analytics cookie or request is set until you opt in. 2. A platform-level analytics tool provided by Polsia, our hosting platform. Polsia analytics is opt-in: it does not run until you give consent from this banner.

Until you explicitly opt in, no analytics cookie, no analytics request, no third-party analytics tag is set on this site. This is a promise, not just a default. There is no analytics code loaded server-side that would fire before consent.

Stripe cookies on the payment page

When you click a "Buy" button on SiteGuardian, you are sent to a Stripe-hosted payment page (checkout.stripe.com). On that page, Stripe sets its own cookies to handle the payment session, fraud prevention, and (where required by law) consent to Stripe's own analytics. We have no control over which cookies Stripe sets on their own pages.

The Stripe cookies we know about include:

  • `__stripe_mid`. Fraud-prevention identifier.
  • `__stripe_sid`. Session identifier for the checkout page.
  • Stripe's consent-mode cookie where your jurisdiction requires one (for example, in line with EU rules).

The full list lives in Stripe's cookie policy. If you object to any of those cookies, decline the payment on the Stripe page or pay by a method that does not touch Stripe's hosted checkout (for example, by emailing siteguardian-8@polsia.app for an invoice).

Embedded third-party content

We occasionally embed third-party content (for example, a screenshot of a tool, a video, a map). Embedded third-party content can set its own cookies. We avoid it, and we always mark an embed clearly so you can tell what is SiteGuardian and what is the third party's.

How to refuse or delete cookies

Just this site

  • Use the Reject all button on this banner (clears the consent preference and prevents future optional cookies from loading).
  • Clear your browser's storage for our domain (in your browser's settings, look for "site data" or "cookies and site data". Varies by browser).

All sites on your browser

  • Use your browser's privacy mode.
  • Install a content blocker.
  • Use the "Do Not Track" header in your browser's preferences.

Effect of refusing

If you refuse strictly-necessary cookies (sign out, clear all data, etc.), the site simply does not work. You cannot log in, you cannot be alerted, and you cannot see your dashboard. We treat those as required for the service to do what you asked it to do.

Changes to this policy

When we add, remove, or change a cookie, we will update this page. If we change the "no analytics cookies until consent" promise above, we will tell you on the home page before the change takes effect and you will have the option to opt in or out.
